Fungi Friday!! Chaetomium is reported as being one of the most common types of mold found in water damaged homes. The “hairy ball” you see is the mature form. The spores are the small football shapes you see around it.

Happy fungi Friday! Found this little culprit between the folds of the refrigerator rubber seal. The spore is called nigrospora and it looks black and spherical. It’s not truly harmful to humans but it has been known to cause hay fever, asthma and in some rare cases, skin infections. Keep those refrigerators clean!

Steps to confirm asbestos (Chrysotile)
1. Look at submitted material (4” Pipe) 2. Inspect further under a stereoscope (notice suspicious fibers) 3. Prep onto a slide with 1.550 RI Oil, look at fiber morphology and other characteristics. 4. Confirm it’s Chrysotile by checking RI colors (magenta/blue) #asbestos #asbestosremoval #mold #bacteria #ecologicslab #environmentallab #environmentallaboratory #environmentaltesting #microscopy #plm #pcm #micro #chrysotile #chrysotileasbestos
